Video: Taylor vs. Pili co-main event ends in disaster as Thomas Carty falls head-first out of ring
Katie Taylor’s final fight might have been overshadowed by a scary moment in the co-main event.
Heavyweights Dave Allen and Thomas Carty faced off in the penultimate bout of Saturday’s card at Croke Park in Dublin in what could have been a showcase bout for Ireland’s Carty. Unfortunately, midway through the opening round, Carty somehow ended up tumbling head-first to the outside of the ring after getting tangled up with Allen.
Watch the strange moment below.
Carty was the aggressor early on, using his jab well to frustrate Allen. However, as he looked to press the advantage, he turned his head in the clinch just as Allen was throwing a short shot and it looked to have struck Carty right in the back of the head.
A dazed Carty stumbled forward and fell through the ropes, and shortly after he was attended to by staff and physicians at ringside. Allen was left in the ring to figure out what happened, but there were few answers in the moment. After several awkward minutes, it was ruled that Carty was unable to continue, possibly due to an injury suffered during the fall.
The bout was officially ruled a no-contest.
