UFC 331 medical suspensions: Alonzo Menifield looking at 6 month suspension due gnarly broken thumb
Alonzo Menifield picked up a huge win at UFC 331 on Saturday as he scored a split decision victory over Iwo Baraniewski to open the main card but he certainly didn’t walk away unscathed.
The veteran light heavyweight suffered a gruesome broken thumb in the opening round and by the end of the fight it appeared as if Menifield might lose that finger because the split was so terribly bad.
On Monday, the California State Athletic Commission released the medical suspensions from UFC 331 and Menifield was handed a 180 day suspension (six months) for a possible fracture to his left thumb. He’ll have to sit out the six months unless he receives a doctor’s clearance beforehand afer suffering such a gnarly injury.
As for the main and co-main event fighters from UFC 331, Joshua Van only received a seven day mandatory suspension for his win in the main event while Alexandre Pantoja was handed a 60-day suspension with 60 days no contact for a laceration over his left eyebrow.
In the co-main event, Arman Tsarukyan was handed a 45-day suspension with 30 days no contact due to a hard bout while Mauricio Ruffy received a 60 day suspension with 60 days no contact due to being knocked out. He also has to clear having a laceration over his right eye following the fight.

Joshua Van: 7 day mandatory suspension
Alexandre Pantoja: 45 day suspension, 30 days no contact due to a hard bout, 60 day suspension, 60 days no contact unless cleared by a physician due to a laceration on his left eyebrow.
Arman Tsarukyan: 45 day suspension, 30 days no contact due to a hard bout. 7 day mandatory suspension
Mauricio Ruffy: 45 day suspension, 30 days no contact. 60 day suspension, 60 days no contact unless cleared by physician to a laceration on his right eye.
Patricio Pitbull: 7 day mandatory suspension
Doo Ho Choi: 45 day suspension, 30 days no contact. 60 day suspension, 60 days no contact unless cleared by physician for laceration to right eye. 7 day mandatory suspension.
Sean Sharaf: 7 day mandatory suspension
Gable Steveson: 45 day suspension, 30 days no contact due to knockout. 7 day mandatory suspension
