Conor McGregor explains bringing his kids to UFC 329 after they ‘thankfully’ missed him breaking his leg in 2021
Conor McGregor is going to have a massive amount of fans cheering him on at UFC 329 but none more important than his four children who are going to see him perform for the first time in their lives.
The former two-division UFC champion revealed that his children arrived in Las Vegas on Tuesday and they’ll be attending his fight against Max Holloway on Saturday. After a long training camp spent preparing for his first fight in five years, McGregor was genuinely excited to be reunited with his children, even if it was only for a short visit.
“I’ll spend some time with them, feed them, put them to bed and go back to the house, my house, where my coaches and my team are and begin to make the weight,” McGregor told TNT Sports.
McGregor’s first son was born back in 2017 with his siblings following in 2019, 2021 and 2023 so there’s been other opportunities for them to attend his fights.
But McGregor admits he never felt comfortable with that situation previously and he was eternally grateful he didn’t allow any of his kids to attend his most recent bout against Dustin Poirier, which ended with the Irish superstar suffering a gruesome broken leg.
“I am happy how it went the last time I didn’t bring them,” McGregor said. “I was away for camp. Camp was very good. The damage in the leg and just the hostility of it all, it just wasn’t the place.
“I was happy and thankfully they weren’t there to witness the leg break. That’s it.”
Now that he’s recovered and competing again, McGregor still had to take time away from dad duties to prepare for his upcoming fight but he felt it was the right time to have his children in attendance for his comeback.
While McGregor is steadfast that his “love of the game” is the reason why he’s back fighting more than anything else, he’s understandably excited to have his children see him go to work on Saturday.
“I’m going to go for it this time,” McGregor said. “My inspiration and my aim is let them watch their daddy in all his glory and our god.”
