‘It’s gonna be a riot in this motherf*cker’: 19-year-old prospect explains his side of viral Fury FC finish, post-fight chaos with UFC vet

Jay Alderete has no regrets with how things played out at Fury FC 121 this past Sunday against UFC veteran Cameron Smotherman.

In a wild affair, Alderete choked Smotherman to sleep after landing a nasty head kick in the second round to improve to 6-0 as a pro. After the victory, the 19-year-old prospect continued to talk trash, and even D-X crotch chopping Smotherman, which led to the former UFC fighter trying to charge at Alderete while security intervened.

Eventually, Smotherman had to be literally carried out by multiple police officers.

Alderete says Smotherman talked trash about him the entire build, including in an interview that dropped in the arena prior to the fight that he hadn’t seen before. The undefeated fighter was asked about the chaotic post-victory moment.

“I told him at face-offs, because he said he doesn’t know nothing about me, and he doesn’t understand the hype, so after I knew he was asleep for like four seconds already, I had him asleep in my hands for like five, six seconds, so I’m fulfilling the energy,” Alderete told MMA Fighting. “I get up and then I hop on a cage, whatever, hop off, and he’s up and causing all this shit. And so I’m like, ‘You know what, I’m just going to go add a cherry on top.’

“So I ran up and I told him, ‘I told you [you were] going to remember the name today,’ and I mean he just crashed out. They dragged him out of the cage. He runs back in, tries to sneak attack me, the funniest shit of all-time. Like, I’m just watching this dude be carried out from head to toe. I look outside the cage, I see ice cups getting thrown in the air at this dude, beers getting thrown. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it is gonna be a riot in this motherf*cker.’”

Smotherman reacted after the fight, claiming he was hit with seven fouls, including five low blows, a headbutt and an eye poke.

Two of the low blows were glaringly obvious, which cost Alderte a point in the second round before the finish. Others were certainly close in the low blow department, but hard to tell for sure due to the camera angle.

Alderete certainly is aware of the two big shots below the belt, but says the rest of the foul claims were false, and that Smotherman was milking the moment trying to get more time.

“He felt the pressure of the fight,” Alderete said. “He knew I was coming in hungry as f*ck, about to eat his f*cking face off, and he didn’t want to quit, but he was buying himself some time I think, maybe either trying to throw me off my rhythm or f*cking get the ref to disqualify me so he didn’t look like a bitch and quit, you know what I mean?

“And that’s OK cause I didn’t finish him with a nut shot. I mean, I choked him to sleep, you know what I mean? And then I kicked his head off his shoulders. So, I’m not, I’m not tripping on this.”

The post-fight madness caught fire on social media with plenty of differing opinions on the situation, with some claiming that Alderete was unprofessional and crossed the line with his post-fight celebration.

When asked if he had any regrets with how things went down, Alderete says there’s a lot of stuff that happened during the breaks in action that people didn’t see, which led to all of the hubbub at the end of the highly-anticipated contest.

“Well, let me put it like this, OK, because this needs to be cleared up anyways for everybody that watched the fight,” Alderete said. “I did that because I look outside the cage on this break [after a low blow], you’re just walking back and forth looking around. Bro, these dudes and all his family and fans, friends, whatever on that side, they’re standing up on the chair, flicking me off. One dude’s raising his stuff at me, right? He’s doing a crotch grab at me… and I’m like, you know what? F*ck ya’ll. 

“So I give a lot of birds and then I crotch grab them and oh now I’m the bad guy. But it’s just like your boy did. He did all that hot talking before the fight, but he couldn’t walk it in the fight. I mean, don’t do all that talking out there if you ain’t going to be able to take back what you’re giving out. Don’t do it, you know what I mean? So at the end of the day, I have no regrets on that shit, if you want to be honest. But I mean, sorry if you got your feelings hurt, I’m going to just give you what you want to hear. Sorry. You win. There you go.”

The fight even caught the attention of UFC bantamweight and past Houston regional star Adrian Yañez, who commented on the fight via Twitter.

“Jay was being disrespectful to Cameron’s mom. Flicking her off and telling her f*ck you,” Yañez wrote. “F*ck that disrespectful shit.”

Alderete saw the tweet from Yañez and addressed it in multiple ways — but first, he wanted to clarify the notion that he was disrespectful to Smotherman’s mother. Alderete also says that Smotherman has reached out to him on social media after the fight.

“I’m like, bro, who even is this? Who even is his mom?,” Alderete explained. “Never seen his mom, never talked to his mom, don’t even know who she is, what she looks like. And I’m being disrespectful to her? Bro, didn’t say a word about you, your team, your family, nothing –  before, during, or after the fight. But you wake up the next morning, sending me voice messages, f*ck you, f*ck your team, f*ck your family. That’s what he told me.

“He’s like, ‘You a bitch, and I’ll beat the f*ck out of you.’ And I’m like, ‘Dog,I just put you to sleep.’ He’s like, ‘If you don’t think it was a fluke, then line it back up.’ And I’m like, ‘Bro, if I give you the opportunity to fight me again, what are you going to go do? Cry to your mommy? Have your mommy f*cking calling the promoter, whining? Is that what you’re going to do? Because that’s what you did this time.

“So it’s like, bro, suck it up. Go do something with your life. Get a job. If you want to train, hit me up. Whatever you wanna do, bro, but I’m not going to sit here and beef with you over some regional ass win. I’m trying to get to the UFC. You was just a stepping stone.”

When asked about a potential rematch with Smotherman, since it would clearly be a massive fight for the promotion, Alderete says he’d be happy to run it back if Smotherman can find his way back into the UFC. For now, the 19-year-old phenom has his sights set on the UFC, or Dana White’s Contender Series.

But if he does get signed by the UFC, Alderete says he’d be happy to stand across from Yañez in his first promotional bout.

“I would love to chin that dude as my UFC debut,” Alderete said. “I f*cking grew up watching him too. Like these guys, I literally looked up to growing up in the Houston MMA community, because they were like the big names in the Houston MMA community when I was growing up. And now I’m like, bro, y’all some ass clowns. Adrian, you follow me on Instagram, everyone in the comments talking about on my Instagram, make a Twitter, make a Twitter, you decide to go on Twitter, post about that shit on Twitter, still follow me on Instagram, say f*ck that, [tell] me I’m disrespectful, all this stuff, like it’s an issue, you’re pressing an issue.

“But you’re a grown man doing all that, and you still follow me on IG, bro, you could have sent me a message, you know what I mean? You could have sent me a message, you could have talked some shit, you could have kept it professional and been like, ‘Look, I don’t respect this and that,’ and I’ll be like, ‘Look, OK, well he said this and that,’ squash right there. But he decided to take it to the internet, so it’s like, bro, if you’re going to take it to the internet, line something up. You’re just throwing my name out there. You want a couple clicks and likes. I f*cking hate the internet.”
